All Star Jazz Band

The All Star Jazz Band is a big band comprised of musicians ages 15-25, high school, college, and university students or graduates.
The band consists of up to 5 saxophones, 5 trumpets, 4 trombones, 1 bass trombone, drums, acoustic upright bass, guitar, piano, and solo vocalist.  For the advanced high school or post secondary school musician.  This polished group performs advanced music, much of which is at a professional level.

Rehearses Tuesdays 7:00-9:30 p.m.

About the director

Allan Gaumond is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s Jazz Performance program, where he studied saxophone with Mike Murley and Kirk McDonald.  He later earned his Bachelor of Education from OISE/UT and his Honours Specialist in music from the University of Western Ontario.

Allan is an alumnus of the Hamilton All Star Jazz Band and performed during the band’s inaugural European tour and performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, as well as at the IAJE Conference in New York City.  He has shared the stage with some of Canada’s top jazz musicians including David Braid, Guido Basso, Alex Dean, Pat LeBarbera and Kenny Wheeler to name a few.  He also performed with the alumni ensembles at the organization’s 15th, 20th, and 25th anniversary celebrations.  Allan directed the Rising Stars Jazz Band from 2005-2017, during which the ensemble received a Gold standard for their performance at Musicfest Nationals three times.

Allan currently teaches music at Hillfield-Strathallan College in Hamilton, where he works with students in the Middle and Senior schools.
